Halloween Candle Craft Along (Live)
Jack O Lantern Candle Craft Along- Live on YouTube on Saturday 10/24 @6pm CT
Eeek! I'm very excited to host my first live candle craft along. I will be showing you how to carve these cute candles while we chat. Down below are the materials you will need if you want to join in on the fun.
Here is the YouTube live link: https://youtu.be/cgJvJ-NRCFw
Sphere candles- I purchased mine from Amazon. These are 2.3" balls. I purchased them in white. I haven't tried this using any other color, but feel free to experiment. You will see the color of these candles as you carve.
Pillar wax and orange dye- I used IGI 4625 wax to create these candles, but any kind of pillar wax will do. This will be the orange layer of wax on the outside of the candle. I tried this with soy 464 and it does not work. Container wax will not work for this. You need a hard wax that you will be able to carve into. Use can use either liquid dye or dye chips to color the wax orange. You can also buy an orange pillar candle and melt that down if you don't have access to a block of pillar wax.
2 glass containers- You will need a container for the melted orange pillar wax and one container of water to dip your candles. Ideally, you want a container that is wide enough so you can dip your candle without it scraping the sides. Remember, the candle will grow a bit as you dip it. Also, if the container is too large you will have to use more wax to submerge your candle. I am using one of my candle containers that is 3 inches in diameter and 4 inches tall. Glass pyrex containers would work great also.
*To keep your wax melted have a pot with hot water on your stove.
Carving tools- You will need a sharp tool to carve the faces. I am using a clay tool, but you can use a pairing knife.
*Optional- The clay tool at the bottom is used to make the ridges that make the candle look like a pumpkin. It's fine if you don't have one of these. You can skip this step of the tutorial and have a sphere pumpkin without the ridges. I found these tools at Michaels.
You may also want to have some paper towels handy.
*TIP* Before the live you can look up some jack o lantern faces that you want to carve. You need to move quickly when carving so having the images handy will be helpful.
I can't wait to see you there!
